- As Ebonyi Senators, Rep members disown Umahi over defection
The Senate Minority Leader and Senator for Abia-South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has vowed to remain in the vanguard for the agitation of justice, equity, and fairness for the southeast in national affairs.
The Senator, who stated this after being presented with a Legacy Merit Award as the Most Outstanding Performing Senator in the South-East 2020 by the NUJ, Imo State council, insisted that the quest for a president of Igbo extraction in 2023 was non-negotiable.
Represented by his aide, Chief Chijioke Ukoh, the senator argued that giving up the agitation to accord the zone equal opportunities with other parts of the country would deepen their already existing pitiable condition and thus subject her people to second class citizens.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly members from Ebonyi State yesterday disowned the State governor, David Umahi, who has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The leader of the Ebonyi State PDP caucus in the national Assembly, Sen. Sam Egwu, who read the position of his colleagues at a press conference in Abuja, said none of the lawmakers would defect with Umahi and faulted the governor for accusing the PDP leadership of being unfair to the South-East geopolitical zone.
They described as unacceptable and selfish, the reasons given by Umahi for his action.
